Our dentist at Whitchurch Dental Practice will cast a model of your top and bottom teeth and make bespoke trays (out of thin plastic) to hold teeth whitening gel. Treatments are tailor made, and not something you can buy from over the counter elsewhere. These trays are then worn at home for approximately 45minutes to 1 hour, every day for a minimum of 3 weeks.
This teeth whitening process takes longer than teeth whitening at the practice, but the cost is lower

Enlighten Whitening works by increasing the tooth's permeability to oxygen which breaks down stain molecules. It is a combination treatment meaning that there is a 2 week home treatment followed by a 1 hour visit to our dentist at Whitchurch Dental Studio.
Q. How white will my teeth get?
A. Enlighten Whitening can whiten up to 16 shades, results vary but if used correctly all teeth will whiten dramatically.
Q. Will they look too white?
A. No, natural teeth rarely look too white. Sometimes very white crowns can look wrong because they are made of porcelain.
Q. Will my crowns, veneers or fillings change colour?
A. No, sometimes you may need to change some of these after whitening.
Q. Is there pain or discomfort?
A. You may get some sensitivity, however our dentist at Whitchurch Dental Studio will give you easy to use desensitising swabs to take home, which will work immediately. You will also receive a tube of Tooth Serum toothpaste to brush with while you wait for your trays, this also helps with sensitivity.
Q. How long does it take?
A. Two weeks after your initial visit our dentist will have your Enlighten Whitening trays ready. These are thin and comfortable and must be worn in bed for 14 nights, then on the 15th day you will need to come back to Whitchurch Dental Studio for the second treatment which only takes 40 minutes.
Q. How long does it last?
A. Results can last indefinitely with some very simple maintenance, wearing the trays for 1 night every other month. Continuing to brush with Tooth Serum will also prolong results.
Q. Is it safe?
A. Completely, the materials used in Enlighten Whitening have been used in dentistry for over 100 years.
A few more teeth whitening FAQs:
Q. Could I just use a teeth whitening toothpaste?
A. For teeth whitening toothpastes to really work they would need to be in contact with your teeth for at least 15 minutes, which would never happen when you brush your teeth normally. Some teeth whitening toothpastes can even permanently damage your teeth as they contain acids or abrasives.
Q. What about my fillings or crowns?
A. Because fillings or crowns stay the same colour during the teeth whitening process, they may need to be replaced to match the lighter colour of your teeth after completion of the treatment.
Q. How long will my teeth stay white?
A. Initially in-practice whitening lasts for at least 2 years. However, most patients exceed this time by years. We provide you with trays and the initial bleach. You can top up the whitening even years later by simply purchasing more bleach from the practice.
Q. Am I eligible for tooth whitening treatment?
A. Our dentist will assess your teeth and recommend the best treatment for you. We do not recommend tooth whitening if you have seriously damaged teeth, if you have a peroxide allergy, if you are pregnant or breast feeding, if you have braces, if you are under 16 years old, or if you have an inherited condition such as Tetracycline.
Q. Can I spread the cost of tooth whitening treatment?
A. Yes, interest free payment plans are available for all dental treatments at Whitchurch Dental Studio.
